- ABOUT NANTES
Nantes is a young band who’ve played music together in one form or another over the last few years - David, Harrison, Tenni and Josiah are accomplished for their years. Although having only performed a handful of shows together as Nantes, they’ve played numerous shows in one combination or another as the band behind Jonathan Boulet and Grace Woodroofe.
Now, they have recorded their first songs as Nantes and they’re adding the final touches to their debut release, a self-titled EP. With an aim to write “great and interesting” songs, it comes as no surprise that they’ve done just that for the EP.
The first song from the Nantes debut has already hit the national airways with rotation on Triple J. “Fly” has landed centre stage with an impressive pulsating rhythmic backbone, a laconic lead vocal contrasting with exuberant backing vocals and above all a grabbing hook. It’s a strong introduction to a band that promises much and who draw on a legacy of classic UK post-punk.
Nantes is about to take on more live shows to introduce its music to audiences around the country. The live sets display a depth of ideas that make the band stand out from the crowd. Nantes has a desire to play “great mind exploding shows and be a band with longevity”. Is there anything else?
“Here are the young men” was a phrase used for a highly influential band and another wave of new music at the beginning of the 80s. Now, it seems fitting to use this expression again.
